When Penn Charter alumni gathered for OPC Weekend with former classmates and teachers, new and old friends, a highlight of the two-day celebration was the presentation of the Alumni Award of Merit to Richard A. Balderston OPC '69.
Balderston's remarkable surgical career has spanned 32 years, focusing primarily on adult and adolescent spinal deformity, spinal fractures and lumbar spinal disorders. He was co-director of the Regional Spinal Cord Injury Center and director of the Spine Fellowship Program at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, and he is co-founder of 3B Orthopaedics. Richard and his wife, Claudia, are the parents of Philip OPC '02 and Jessica OPC '05.
Balderston was presented with the award by Anne Marble on behalf of the Alumni Society. View excerpts from his acceptance speech in the video above.
